Karen Lewis
is the strong, bold talking labor leader and the President of Chicago Teachers Union here in
Chicago. This week it was reported, she has suddenly fallen ill; to what
resources say is a brain tumor. Although she is now fighting for her life, she
had fought for years to see that Chicago Public School teachers and students
receive the right funding and education they so deserve. Being a chemistry
teacher at King College Prep High School,
Ms. Lewis knows first hand what is means to have a solid foundation in
education. Her sudden illness has come as a shock to many of her supporters,
including myself. I've seen her on television, parades and newspapers proudly
standing behind our children, as the teachers wear their red union shirts. I
think behind the lioness, this brave woman has a caring heart for our children
and the educational system in Chicago. I wish Ms. Karen Lewis a speedy
recovery because without a voice, our children might be left behind.
